Ear Training Chords

01

Problem

Ear-training exercises work only if you practise often, and most tools feel like homework, so motivation fades quickly.

02

Approach

Exercises cover single notes, intervals, chords and arpeggios, plus a speed mode, across seven levels from Beginner to Jazz. Sounds are generated in the browser with the Web Audio API.

To keep people practising, I added game mechanics: a star-based score, streaks, player profiles and a leaderboard through an optional Supabase login, while guests can still play without an account. The interface works with touch or keyboard and is available in English, Italian, French, Spanish and German.

03

Result

[Add who uses it, e.g. friends or a music community, and any streak or leaderboard numbers.]

Design decisions

  • Motivation is the feature. Streaks, stars and a leaderboard turn practice into a habit.
  • No account required. Guests can start immediately; login only adds profiles and ranking.
